Survey Shows Lack of Cholesterol Awareness

Many people are unaware of the health dangers of high cholesterol, results of a international survey show. The findings caused concern considering all of those questioned had actually been diagnosed as having high cholesterol, putting them at increased risk of life-threatening heart attacks and strokes.

An available device named Resperate® -- has demonstrated its ability to lower blood pressure significantly in the forementioned population. An interim analysis of the results of the first 38 patients participating in a randomized controlled study of non-insulin-dependent diabetics with uncontrolled blood pressure was presented during the European General Practice Research Network meeting earlier this month at the University of Tartu in Estonia.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death worldwide. Almost 17 million people die from CVD each year – more than HIV/AIDS and more than all types of cancer combined. Cardiovascular disease does not just kill - it disables, debilitates, and shortens life expectancy than any other medical condition.

CVD can be prevented. The World Health Organization recently estimated that more than half of all deaths and disability from CVD could be avoided if people took simple measures to reduce their major risk factors – namely, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, and obesity.
